Our journey began at the Port of Los Angeles on Wednesday, January 21st. We are completely checked into our new mini-suite on the dolphin floor.
At 5 PM the Coral Princess, pulled away from the LA cruise terminal, and it seemed that our 115 day voyage ahead felt small when compared to the size of the shipping container sites and industrial lands of the harbor that we passed. It was not the most impressive part of LA but it was our farewell to California and the North American coast.
As we headed out into the Pacific Ocean, we watched a helicopter chase a private yacht but we don't know what became of that chase, and the view of the harbour with break walls and a lighthouse marking the entrance to the port. The celebration moved to the upper deck for the Sail Away Party. With the open ocean ahead of us Jan and I toasted our departure with champagne as a small group of passengers danced on the decks to the music of the ships house band. We said "Goodbye LA" and hello to the Pacific Ocean.

We didn't know what the Coast Guard were after, but we sailed away before the private boat was stopped.
Our first week at sea has had some interesting entertainment. One of the highlights was a Broadway-style musical titled "Encore" at the Princess Theater. It included a full dance troupe accompanied by the ship’s live orchestra and was impressive. During the day you can find "Musical Encores" in the atrium and other various lounges, where members of the orchestra and talented guest pianists provide background music for the bars and sitting areas.
Entertainment in the Atrium - every day it is a different selection of music
The Ship Orchestra with a James Bond tune
The dance group "Encore" wrapping up their performance in the Princess Theatre
with a rendition of "You'll Never Walk Alone"
A highlight of our second day was the formal evening with the Captain’s Champagne Welcome Party. The grand atrium served as the backdrop for the introduction of the Captain and his senior crew members. The focus was a tall Champagne Tree built from approximately 450 champagne glasses in the center of the Atrium. Jan and I watched the champagne cascade through the tower with not one ounce spilled nor any glasses broken. It marked the beginning of our Pacific Circle cruise. One note ..... we did not dress formally last night, as there are 17 more evenings planned and we will certainly look good for those nights.

Who ever heard of Green Champagne?
