Lighthouses, Ships & Bridges en route to Kingston NY

It rained during the night, and when we woke this morning, it still wanted to rain some more, so we decided to hold off leaving till 11am, as they were calling for the rain to stop by then. We had a few chores to do this morning and Captain Paul got into his bathing suit and cleaned the underside of the back seat cushions (which were filthy) as they had never been cleaned previously. After removing the cushions we were able to get all the grime and grease and dog hair which was from our older puppies, out from under the cushion. What a difference cleaning makes.

It was about 10 am when Kyle finally woke up after having a great sleep and we moved the boat to the small marina in Troy. We needed to get water and pump out the holding tank because the Captain made a little mistake the other day. We just had a pump out and filled our water tanks, so we were all set for the trip down the Hudson, hoping that we would not have to stop for any more water ...............but then a "Hallman Experience" sort of happened. As we were heading down the Erie Canals yesterday, and with Kyle at the helm, the Captain went into the washroom to brush his teeth. Sounds ok to me, but he left the water running and it basically emptied our entire water tank and filled our holding tank. so we had no more water (Hallelujah for Alice because she couldn't do dishes) and we had no more room in our holding tanks to use the toilet - Really a dumb thing to do Captain! Hence a need to refill and empty out and the Troy City Marina was close by..

When we got to the Troy City Marina, we radio'd the dockmaster and we found out that their pump out was inoperative, and that forced us to relocate to the Albany Yacht Club to complete the fill up / pump out. That worked out well... Fresh water and our pooper was empty, so our problem was solved for the low low cost of $5.00.

The distance from Troy NY to our NYC destination, is 210 km's, and we wanted to do this over two and a half days, so today our goal was to get to Kingston, which was 87 km, and running at 17.5 kph we would take a little over 4 hours to get to our destination.

During the course of the day we passed various bridges and I thought it would be interesting to see the different designs.

This is the Kingston-Rhinecliff Bridge

This is the Wurts Street Bridge, in Kingston NY

This is the Castleton on Hudson Bridge

On the route down the Hudson we passed three lighthouses, which were relatively old and still in operation. We don't have much detail on them but they sure stood tall and looked good. One had a tour boat visiting it today with clients

We left the Albany Yacht Club at 12 noon and arrived in Kingston at 5 pm. During the afternoon Kyle and Captain Paul shared the helm, however during that time others just relaxed, while others played behind our boat and entertained us.

There were many interesting happenings along the river and one stood out a bit more than the others. We saw a large Ship moving south on the Hudson with an escort. It was a very strange looking ship and after looking at the pictures we think it may be one that lays cables on the floor of a river. Basically it looked like a floating roller coaster from an amusement park.

Tucked into the trees, and high on the hills on the Hudson were various homes but I am sure we will see many more when we get closer to NYC..

We passed a site where they were building a Modular Bridge and it appeared that it was going to be at least two long sections that would likely be floated down the river to replace some other structure, but so far we have not noticed anything that resembles a construction site on the river. Needless to say the modular bridge being build, was impressive.

At 5 pm we arrived in Kingston NY, and Kyle took control of the helm and docked at the Savanah Restaurant where they said (online) that we could dock overnight for free only to find out that their dock is in need of repair and we could not stay, so we moved to the Town Dock and had to pay for the night. Kyle did an amazing job bringing Out To See alongside the dock in Kingston. Lots to see in this town as it was tucked into a small river off the Hudson with many photo moments here, or as the younger generation would say, "Good Flic Material".

We had dinner at the Ship to Shore Restaurant and it was a great meal which included New Zealand Lamb, Swordfish, Coconut Shrimp and some Clams - No one was hungry after that meal!

After sunset, Kyle and I had a beverage on the aft of our boat and captured the changing lights of the Wurts Street Bridge. It was almost better than fireworks.

A calm end to a busy day, heading down the Hudson River.

Here is the info from our Nebo Log. We travelled a total of 87.3 km and it took 5 hours and 22 minutes at an average speed of 16.6 km/hr.

Sooooo.. Alice and I have a bone to pick with the author of this blog. We read daily how much the captain and the 1st mate do on this trip to make it nice and safe for all. And that’s a good thing. We see very little chatter about us gals and what we do, other than pics with our mouths full of food or less than flattering wide angle shots. When I mentioned this to the author, he said that we were the deck fluff and doing a great job of that! I guess we should take the compliment!? We have been in contact with our Union Reps…. aka our girlfriends, and they have sanctioned a strike for …
