Day 3 started out on a positive note with the Parks Canada staff at the Kirkfield Lift Lock opening right at 10 am so we were first up and wow, what a ride. Canada's Wonderland has nothing on this ride. We went up a total of 59 feet in less than 1 minute in this massive bath tub and it was smooth. Now we were on our way to the Kawartha Lake area. The girls spent time enjoying the sun, calm waters, scenic views and became real deck fluff.

Now this is Deck Fluff at it's best !

The route was pretty and most of the waterways were tree lined under blue skies and it was pretty. Although the sun was out, it was a windy day. We noticed the high winds as we went in and out of the locks. Because our boat is high, the wind tends to catch us on the side and it tries to push us sideways but, if the Captain is on his toes he can control that and today he managed to do that, although there were times when it got a bit tricky.

The Parks Canada staff at each lock are always friendly and giving us hints and stories about their particular lock or things that have happened along the way so it is always good to strike up a conversation with the staff. Many of the locks are still manual but the larger ones are automatic and in the manual locks, the staff work hard turning the cranks to open and close the lock doors.

Docked in Fenlon Falls for a walk and lunch

ree

We made it to Fenlon Falls around noon and decided to stop for a stroll and lunch. The Captain and Swabbie went to the local bar for a cold Guinness and an ice tea and when they were joined by the girls we all enjoyed lunch on a patio for the first time in over a year. What a treat. Fenlon Falls is one of our favorite towns on the Trent.

After leaving Fenlon Falls we headed to our cottage which is a 15 minute ride down Sturgeon Lake with the idea that we would anchor just off our shoreline and take Our Seein' to the dock but we had trouble getting our anchor to grab. At one point we pulled up a slew of seaweed and a sunken log. It took Jan a while to get the anchor cleaned and remove the log.

Finally we managed to get a good anchor hold and because it was windy we decided to wait a bit and be sure it held and sure enough, we started to slip. It was an easy decision. We are not going to our cottage. we packed up the anchor, tied down the Tender and headed to Bobcaygeon for the night hoping to get a good start in the morning.

Can you believe we grabbed this ! OUTTOSEE anchored outside our cottage

Tomorrow we head to Peterbourgh and the good news is - the lock is fixed and we can get through first thing Friday morning.

The Hallman Experience Day 3:

Again weeds and sunken deadheads provoked our day but we were fortunate that we didn't have any damage to our props especially with all the weeds, deadheads and shallow water.

Captain Paul almost had OUTTOSEE sideways in his favorite lock at Fenlon Falls but managed to pull it out of a 360 spin. Damn he is a good captain but he blamed it on the high winds. Unlikely that the winds did that.

On a positive note, Swabbie is keeping up with his school work and gets online every day so not only are we OUTTOSEE but we are a floating schoolroom.

Way to Go Kyle !

More to come as we find new Adventures !

Fenlon is my favourite lock too. Such a beautiful town to grab a Guinness and a non-pint for my Papa and Son. The deck fluff are doing their jobs well. Looking forward to what day 4 brought you all. Keep up the good school work Kyle. ❤️
