The plan to boat to NYC was a passing comment last Christmas when we were sitting around and talking about a previous journey, and would we do another one. When NYC was mentioned it was an immediate response................... I am not doing another lot of locks again, but then an idea popped up.............. Maybe Paul can get the boat to Trenton and the girls can join him there, which is what has now happened. Part one was completed when Paul and his friends took the boat from Wye Heritage in Midland to Trenton, and then Kyle, Jan and Cynthia hopped on and travelled the NYC portion and tomorrow it is time for Jan and Cynthia to leave and we get a new crew.
Given that we had engine problems and uncertain how it would perform after the repair yesterday we took a big leap to boat from Brewerton NY to Oswego NY and then continue on to Trenton. That was the plan and we almost executed it perfectly. However, the weather window for crossing Lake Ontario is not very good for Monday or Tuesday but it appeared to be ok this afternoon and that is why we kept going after passing through Oswego.

We left at 10 am from Brewerton and arrived in Oswego around 4 pm. A quick stop to review the weather and we agreed, lets get across Lake Ontario today, and off we went. Our ETA was 8:30 but as we got into the lake the winds picked up and the 1 foot waves were closer to 4 feet or larger. This forced us to slow down and battle Mother Nature and battle we did. We finally arrived in the Bay of Quinte at 11 pm and decided that it was impossible for us to get to Trenton tonight, mostly because the Murray Canal swing bridge would not open and because we decided it was just time to stop. The easiest solution was drop anchor so here we are, under the stars anchored out in the Bay of Quinte. Tomorrow morning we will get through the Murray Canal and to Trenton where we will switch crews. Jan and Cynthia go back to London and Chester and Bruce will hop on for the run up the Trent Waterway System.
There were interesting scenery on the route back and it was an easy day, until the rain started. Cynthia battled the rain and continued to be the Lock Gal that now is proficient in Lockmanship.

Then again, there were times when our Cynthia, or our dear Alice, would need to rest her weary head.

Or could it be because she worked all the time to make sure dishes were finished, Lock lines were handled or even emergency recovery work completed. These video help explain why she is such a valuable crew member.
We didn't have much to do for most of the trip and photos were scarce. I did take a minute to outline where we were at the time I shot this clip around 5 pm today.
Leaving to Cross Lake Ontario from Oswego NY
And there was one time in a lock that was worthy of America's Funniest Videos, but I was not able to get the entire event, only the ending, but I am sure you will figure out what happened. And this happened in two different locks with this boater. You have to hate when this happens.
During our trip on the last leg of the Erie Canal and all of the Oswego Canal, there were still photo's worthy of posting on this blog.
So daylight passed and he night time sky moved in. At least we got a great sunset picture.

We boated till 11 pm and finally reached the Bay of Quinte where we anchored for the night. This was our view of the shoreline when we arrived in the Bay.

When Out to See came to a stop, Jan and Alice set the anchor in 15 feet of water. That's all we know till tomorrow morning when we wake and find out where we really are now. We will switch crews around noon in Trenton.

We were happy to be back on Canadian Water - oh yeah, we have to call customs in the morning and can't forget to do that!
Here is our Nebo Log for the day with record setting statistics. We travelled 168.1 km's over 13.16 hours with and average speed of 14.9 km.
