A Slow day at Sea

After one month on the Coral Princess and following our visit to so many islands in the Pacific, we will finally be on solid ground when we stop at our first port in New Zealand tomorrow morning. The temperature has now dropped but the sun still shines. Today, it is a breezy 21C outside and we are expecting the same temperatures in Auckland tomorrow. We have an exciting day planned for our initial stop and look forward to posting the details on a blog following our day tomorrow on shore.

Today, Jan and I took it easy. I was up early to watch the Canadian / US Woman's Gold Medal hockey game. None of the Olympics are being broadcast on the ship but I downloaded an Iptv app before we left home and we are able to get quite a few channels. There are a few Canadians aboard (about 250 in total) and some want to watch the hockey games, so this morning at 6 am I was up, went to the Chapel (it is the only place on the ship with a TV that we could use) and hooked up my tablet to the TV. We streamed the game and it was exciting until the last two minutes when the Americans tied the game and eventually went on to win in overtime. It was an unfortunate ending but we are proud of how our gals performed.

There are other people we have met that want to watch the Men's game however it starts at 2 am ship time on Sunday evening (that is the time for us as we are one day ahead) so maybe we will just not go to bed. We will see what happens as the game gets closer.

We have been able to watch some events but the time difference between Milan and our ship is 12 hours.

This morning Jan and I got some exercise by walking level 7 of the ship and spent the better part of an hour strutting the exterior deck. Jan did 10 laps and I did 8 and we both felt better after the hike.

I made a short video to give you a tour of Deck 7. It's usually windy on one side of the ship as you walk and most people do it with the wind at their back as they walk. When you watch the video make sure you listen to the group playing their instruments outdoors. They are there every day at 11 am and they just jam.

Following our deck walk we attended a special luncheon put on by the ship's chef in Sabatini's Italian Restaurant where they served personal sized pizza with wine, champagne, beer and a mozzarella appetizer. There was a long lineup to get into the restaurant but the wait was worth it - It was yummy.

Early this morning, with the sun out and the weather much cooler, Jan had her breakfast on the balcony. After our pizza lunch lunch I attended my Ukulele session along with approximately 30 others and Jan did some crocheting. It was a relaxing day.

Tonight we relax, maybe attend some Trivia Games and Karaoke in the Explorer Lounge and then prepare for our arrival in New Zealand. Stay tuned for more upcoming posts.

Here we come New Zealand
