It's Wednesday, August 21st, and another beauty day in New York City. The weather is not scorching hot, but rather a comfy 21C with light winds. A perfect day to visit the city.
Waking up this morning the crew had noticed an odor in the boat and we set out to find out the source of the smell. It was not bad, it just was not your fresh morning airy odor. While we were docked in Little Falls, we cleaned the strainers in the engine compartment and when we did that we had some water laying in the hull of the boat. Not a lot, but enough to sit there for a week and start to get stale. We also noticed that our Pooper Holding Tanks were full again and we had not been using them much, and we wondered if the pump out we had at the Albany Yacht Club actually worked. Needless to say, Captain Paul had to come up with something to correct this situation. We were concerned that we may have to move the boat to an adjoining marina to get the pump out, and given that we had enough trouble getting into this slip, we really didn't want to move Out To See.

Marina Pump out Boat at our slip
After texting our Marina owner, we found out that the adjoining marina would send a boat over to our slip and pump us out, in place so I called them and within 1 hour we had both Pooper Tanks cleaned, for the low low price of $15.00 which I could not believe was that inexpensive. We made sure we tipped that man well. Captain Kyle pitched in and did the dirty work but it didn't make him smile. The Thumbs Down in the picture says it all.
After the holding tanks were emptied we proceeded to use our newly purchased 2 Gallon Shop Vac to remove the stale water from the 3 bilges of our boat and now it has a refreshed odor. Glad that all worked out well.
In yesterdays post I failed to update you on some antics that the gals got into when we were at the Battery Park. It seems that every time they find a water puddle (just like little kids at the park) they want to go play and pretend they are much younger. So today, I wanted to let you know what Captain Kyle and myself have to put up with but forever support, during our walks in various spots. The last time they did anything similar to their Tuesday Splash was in Montreal.
Today's agenda was to visit the 9/11 Memorial Museum so we went online and purchased some tickets for a timed entry, because it is a busy place, and we did not want to stand in line hoping to get a ticket. We spent almost 2 hours in the museum, which was built on the same footprint as the World Trade Center South, and North Towers, all were destroyed in the 2001 attack. There were so many artifacts, videos, stories and history of the original towers that we could have stayed much longer. We highly recommend that anyone coming to NYC, put the Museum on their list of places to see as we were all impressed and emotionally moved during out time there.

Before entering the 9/11 Museum, we stopped at a security guard with his dog, and Jan talked with him regarding the security they provide. He was kind enough to spend a few moments going over what they do and what his role has been. He was with his 9 yr old German Shephard dog and they have been partners for 6 years and they actually do live together. Such a wonderful partnership and dedication to keep us all safe.

The rest of our day was spent wandering around the city introducing Captain Kyle to the various sites in the Big Apple. We took the Subway from the 9/11 Museum to the Times Square area and simply enjoyed the people, the neon signs and Jan's Favorite - Junior's Red Velvet Cake. It was so yummy, and we each only had small tastes. We did make a stop at the M&M Store and walked out with nothing. After watching so many people purchase bags of the M&M;s it is clear that "Melt in Your mouth and not in Your Hands" makes perfect sense.
Typical NY City and specifically the Times Square area was full of animated people and entertainers looking for cash. There was always some entertainment.
One of the street people actually got a little vocal
After leaving Times Square we walked to Central Park and decided that our legs were already tired from walking and we wanted to see as much of the park as possible, so we hired a horse and buggy driver to give us the 45 minute guided horse drawn carriage ride which was well spent money.
Our last destination for the day was Trump Tower, Rockefeller Center, St Patrick's Cathedral and then head back to the marina to rest our weary legs.
So after walking all over the city we were ready to relax, and then we saw, what appeared to be, Donald Trump in front of his building just being Donald. Glad we had a chance to say hi and get a good chuckle.

Jan and I stopped for a Pizza and yes, Tito does make a great thin crust Pizza. It was early to bed for everyone except the Author of this Blog................. Midnight again before it is finished.
So Wednesday ended with us walking over 19,000 steps, which is a bit more than what we walked yesterday. At least we are getting exercise daily. Tomorrow we are heading to Ellis Island and the Lady herself.
